Best of Knitting

Free knitting and crochet patterns, found and shared

Editorial and Curation Policy

Best of Knitting helps you find your next knitting project by the yarn, time and skill you already have. Most of what we publish are collections: we choose existing knitting patterns by other designers, describe each one in our own words, and send you to the designer’s own page to get it.

How we feature a designer’s pattern

  • A short description written by us, and a project card: designer, free or paid, skill, yarn weight, amount of yarn, time, what it is best for, and one honest thing to watch for.
  • The figures on a card come from the designer’s own pattern page. If the designer does not state something, we leave it out rather than guess.
  • A clear credit by name and a direct link to the designer’s own page. The instructions, charts and downloads stay there.
  • We never rewrite a designer’s pattern as our own, and we never republish their instructions.
  • We do not copy designers’ photographs onto this site. The images on our pages and pins are our own. If a designer gives us permission to show a photo, it is credited to them.
  • If a pattern is paid, we say so. If a free pattern later becomes paid, we update the link and the wording.

Free to read is not free to republish

A pattern that is free to read on a designer’s site still belongs to that designer. If you share one, please do the same as we do: link to the designer, and do not copy their pattern or their photos.

Our own content

The text and images we create belong to Best of Knitting. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote a short excerpt with a credit and a link back. Please do not republish whole articles or our images without asking first.

Affiliate links and advertising

Some pages contain affiliate links, for example to yarn, needles and notions on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. It costs you nothing extra, and it never decides which patterns we feature. If a post is ever sponsored, it will say so clearly. Advertising and cookies are explained in our Privacy Policy.

Designers: corrections and removals

If you designed a pattern we feature and would like the description corrected, the link changed, a photo added with your permission, or the pattern removed, email [email protected] and we will act promptly. For copyright complaints, please see our DMCA policy.
